March-April Update

An enormous amount of activity has continued on site over the last six weeks despite the heavy rain over March which had caused challenges on site, particularly with landscaping and road works.

Road works consisting of the Central Park Avenue extension, driveway and crossover into the centre have seen the completion of the driveway (including car park) and crossover.

Internal construction is now almost complete, with the only outstanding items being the service connections. The start of April has been a big milestone for Council as we now have access to some parts of the building as we move in. Landscaping is due to commence in the next week. The last few weeks have seen many people working on site from builders, sub-contractors, architects and council staff.

The details regarding the relocation of the existing Craigieburn Customer Service Centre and Craigieburn Library and the opening of HGLC – Craigieburn will become available soon. Please keep visiting our website to stay update to date with essential relocation information.

We are also now taking bookings for HGLC – Craigieburn. Contact our Bookings Team on 9356 6999 or GLCBookings@hume.vic.gov.au to see how we can cater for your next learning event.

February Update

Another busy month on site – February saw substantial works on the finishing touches to the external facades of the building, while internally the focus has again been on continuing the fit-off of building and site services.

Considerable progress has been made with the installation of pre-finished perforated hoop pine panels in certain areas. The hoop pine panels feature the natural characteristics of timber and will provide the large interior spaces within the finished centre with excellent acoustic properties. Many of the other internal final finishes are well underway including wall tiles and joinery.

There has also been significant progress on the extension of Central Park Avenue and the driveway into the HGLC – Craigieburn car park. Off-site, ongoing work continues in a range of areas including general furnishings and equipment, shelving for the new library, signage and landscaping.

January Update

Following the short break over Christmas and the New Year holiday, the builders are back on site continuing works on building construction.

On site this month, the focus has been on continuing the rough-in and fit-off of building and site services. Many internal linings are now complete and awaiting their final finishes. The installation of these finishes includes timber linings and battens that will further add to the character of the completed library. In-built fixtures (such as joinery) have been arriving at the site and installation has commenced. There has also been significant progress on the extension of Central Park Avenue and the driveway and car park facilities.

Off-site, there has been extensive work in a wide-range of areas from general furnishings and equipment, shelving for the new library and the new landscape plan which will consist of a selection of native vegetation.

December Update

2011 was an extremely busy year for many people working on this project and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and ongoing interest in our newest learning venue.

In construction news, we’re happy to report that a great deal of work has continued on site throughout the month. All structural steel roof framing is now complete and roof flashing (weatherproofing) is due to be completed soon. There has been increased activity within the building on internal finishes and rough-ins.

November Update

Each week on site is getting more and more exciting with the enormity of this new multipurpose community learning venue becoming more evident at each visit.

Construction progress is continuing at a steady pace with work over the last couple of months focusing on ‘weather proofing’ the building to minimise the potential inclement weather delays. The major walls are now up. Window frames – installed and glazed. Wall frames and timber-cladding – almost complete. Substantial work has also been carried out on internal finishes and audio-visual rough in has commenced. The HGLC – Craigieburn is due to open to our community early in 2012.

October Update

Construction work in October again focused upon the installation of roof sheeting and timber wall linings and cladding to minimise potential inclement weather delays. This has enabled the completion of a substantial component of the internal finishes. Another major focus of October’s work on site included the installation of window framing and glazing. This will also reduce the project’s exposure to inclement weather and subsequent delays. All structural steel roof members have been erected and roof sheeting is due to be completed prior to the end of November, subject to safe working conditions. Wall framing and the associated timber cladding is almost complete with minor detailed areas outstanding.

Services contractors have completed their rough-in of services in the Central and West pavilions, excluding the sub-floor ductwork in the principal library space. The work in this area can proceed at the completion of the extensive roof glazing installation overhead. The audio-visual sub-contract has recently been let and this has led to the commencement of their rough-in works. Wherever the external building fabric has been completed, internal finishes (including wall sheeting) has commenced. The installation of these internal wall linings is well advanced within the West pavilion.

August / September Update

Construction activity on site is continuing at a steady pace. All concrete has now been poured and the building frame is almost complete. There have been some delays to progress on site due to the need for the excavation of rock. In the last month, construction work has focused on the installation of the roof frame and cladding to minimise potential weather delays. The frame to the West pavilion and the roof structure for the East-block is complete. The central pavilion is well underway and its completion is due shortly. Timber clad wall framing has commenced within the central pavilions. The rammed earth wall sub-contractor has completed his sub-contract with the exception of the South wall which is awaiting the final certification.  Rough-in of services is ongoing with many contractors on site active within the central and West pavilions.

July Update

Works on the structural frame on the upper level is progressing well. The rammed earth walls are expected to be completed by the end of August together with the majority of steel work to the rest of the building.  The plant room floor will be poured which will conclude all concrete pours.  Roughing of wiring and pipes required for electricity, water and sewer is also progressing well.
