Hume City Council Leisure Centres offer a great range of Group Fitness programs for the enjoyment of all abilities and levels of fitness. Group fitness classes are available at our three council-run leisure centres: Broadmeadows Leisure CentreCraigieburn Leisure Centre and Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

Group Fitness Class descriptions

ABT - Core and more

ABT - Abs, Butts and Thighs is a gentle exercise class that is designed to focus on those problem areas like your stomach, tops of your legs and bottom.

Aqua Aerobics and Aqua on the Move

A fun, social class in the water that is easy on the joints. Workout with less strain on the muscles while toning and becoming fit in the water.

Arthritic Aqua

Exercise movement through water. Ideal for people who suffer with arthritics, osteoporosis or have imbalance difficulties or rehabilitation needs.

Bodyattack™ - A Les Mills Program

A sports-inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina. This high-energy interval training class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilization exercises. Dynamic instructors and powerful music motivate everyone towards their fitness goals - from the weekend athlete to the hard-core competitor!

Bodybalance™ - A Les Mills Program

A Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centered and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance.

Bodycombat™ - A Les Mills Program

An empowering cardio workout where you are totally unleashed. This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as Karate, boxing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai. Supported by driving music and powerful role model instructors strike, punch, kick and kata your way through calories to superior cardio fitness.

Bodypump™ - A Les Mills Program

The original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for - and fast!

Bodystep™ - A Les Mills Program

The energising step workout that makes you feel liberated and alive. Using a height-adjustable step and simple movements on, over and around the step you get huge motivation from sing-a-long music and approachable instructors. Cardio blocks push fat burning systems into high gear followed by muscle conditioning tracks that shape and tone your body.

Chair Fitness

Great for those looking to have fun whilst toning muscles with the aid of a chair. This class encourages those who need rehabilitation due to illness or accident where mobility has been impaired.

Circuit

An excellent way to improve mobility, strength and stamina. A class set to music including the use of hydraulic resistance equipment for fitness and muscular endurance. Circuit classes can also be a combination of 50/50 Circuit and step Circuit.

Funfit - Kids After School Action

Fun and safe fitness programs for young people. This innovative style of group training is designed for the development of young people's physical fitness, health and wellbeing. This program provides activities for children from 8 years of age.

Living Longer Living Stronger

Living Longer Living Stronger - Prime Movers, is a strength training program designed for the over 50's.

Mums Fitness Workout Club

Program designed for those commencing some form of exercise after having a baby. This is a low impact, toning and stretching program, suitable for those wanting to get back into shape. Babies in prams are welcome in class. Specialised Term based program not included in Fitness Memberships.

New Beginning and Back to Basics

A light paced aerobics session ideal for those wanting to put exercise back into their current lifestyle.

Studio cycle or RPM cycle - A Les Mills Program

Indoor Cycling is a group exercise class ridden on stationary bikes. During the class the instructor simulates a ride. Together, you travel on flat roads, climb hills, sprint and race! It is truly a fantastic cardiovascular class. The beauty of indoor cycling is that you can do it even when its raining outside! You are kept motivated by trained instructors, the people around you and by the music!

Step Freestyle

An excellent fitness workout, using an adjustable step to individualise the intensity of the class. Stepping patterns are combined to promote coordination, power and conditioning.

Tai Chi

An exercise program for both the inner and outer bodies, improves flexibility, muscle strength, balance and fitness. Suitable for arthritis sufferers and assists with mobility.

Teen Gym

Gym sessions that includes supervision by qualified staff. Student's workout in a fully equipped gymnasium and are provided with a personalised gym training program. A Gym appointment is necessary when starting a program. Bookings can be made by phone or in person at your local Hume Leisure Centre.

Thump

Thumb boxing or Cardio-boxing is a great way to condition the whole body because it builds muscle strength, endurance, balance, agility and coordination all at the same time. Experience the burning of high calories and discover the use of speed balls, floor to ceiling bags and pads.

X-Trainer or Cross-Trainer

A combination of low/high impact aerobics and step. Great for those wanting to utilise all muscle groups, burning off calories and increase in cardiovascular fitness.

Zumba

Get fit, look good and feel great with this latest fitness craze to sweep the world. A fun, energetic and funky cardio workout with easy to follow steps, all set to exotic Latin music and rhythms. Zumba is the most energetic, fun and party-like fitness class ever! A fantastic fitness style for both males and females. You will have no choice but to smile, laugh and move your body to the amazing music and rhythms of Zumba Fitness.

Keys to enjoying your workout

  • let the instructor know if, it is your first time, if you are pregnant or if you have any injuries or conditions
  • listen to the instructor for exercise modifications
  • don't forget your workout towel and water bottle
  • consume fluids before, during and after the class to maintain adequate hydration levels
  • if you feel any discomfort, please stop and notify the instructor
  • please arrive early for equipment based programs
  • if you are using the Childcare service, please arrive on time to assist with class changeovers
  • all classes are normally of 45-minute duration
  • classes may be cancelled or altered at any time without notification
  • patrons who are five minutes late will not be permitted into the class
