Two Brand New Basketball Courts Ready for Use!
New basketball courts at the Broadmeadows Leisure CentreBasketballs bounce on new courts at the Broadmeadows Leisure Centre.

The extension to the Broadmeadows Leisure Centre is now complete, and the two brand new courts are ready for public use. The four million dollar project, which started 11 months ago, includes two courts added onto the existing centre and a 66 car parking space underneath the courts.

With the community growing, it is great to see that our recreational spaces are growing with them. There is now more space for people to interact and stay fit and healthy.

Basketball is exceptionally popular across Hume and is continuing to attract more players. The existing courts currently experience in excess of 7000 weekly attendances from players, spectators and supporters for training and competition.

The new courts will cater for the growth in popularity and provide access and participation opportunities for local children and adults to participate in basketball. The new courts will also be utilised by the local schools, including the new Hume Central Secondary College, which is currently under construction.

Broadmeadows Town Park
Broadmeadows Town ParkFollowing the July display of the Broadmeadows Town Park Landscape Plan in the Hume Global Learning Centre, Broadmeadows Customer Service Centre and Broadmeadows Leisure Centre, the project is entering the detailed design phase. This will ensure all the elements of the park are documented and ready for construction, including the sustainable planting, lighting and integrated water management system, to deliver a green, multifunctional and family friendly park. Funding for the construction of this project will be sought as part of the 2010/11 budget planning process.

Main Street Extension
The extension to Main Street Broadmeadows, between Dimboola Road and Pearcedale Parade is well underway. Works taking place include the extension of the street, landscaping of the area and parking areas. Main Street extension is still on track to be completed by the end of the year. Continuing this road will greatly improve access to the Broadmeadows Leisure Centre, Youth Central, the basketball stadium, netball courts, Hume Central Secondary College, and other key sites in this precinct.
