| Hume springs into action for the coming fire season | | Residents of Hume are encouraged to start getting ready for the coming fire season.
With the up-coming bushfire season expected to be worse than last summer it was vital residents started planning and preparing now. Bushfire safety is a partnership between individuals, Council, the emergency services, and the State. Council is working in partnership with the State Government and the fire agencies to make our municipality fire ready.
Council will start preparing the municipality for the up-coming fire season by: Issuing notices to property owners about the maintenance of their property, including the removal of fire hazards and rubbish on their land Council is also carrying out bare earth breaks (fire breaks) and controlled burns, which help to reduce the risk of fires spreading Updating its Municipal Emergency Management Plan and the Fire Prevention Plan for the coming fire season Cross-checking existing processes ahead of the season. Hume City Council supports the statewide Fire Action Week, and the community activities being carried out by the CFA before, during and after this time. We should all be reminded that we must all work together to be as fire-safe and as fire-ready as possible so that lives can be protected and properties preserved this fire season.
