The Alister Clark Memorial Rose Garden features the work of Australia's most prolific rose breeder, the late Alister Clark. He lived and bred roses in Bulla, releasing 122 roses between 1912 and his death in 1949, and the garden is dedicated to growing, displaying and promoting the world famous roses he developed. Currently, the garden has around 650 rose plants.
The Alister Clark Memorial Rose Garden is located at the corner of Green Street and Bulla Road, Bulla (Melway ref: 177 B8). It is maintained by the Bulla Garden Club and dedicated community volunteers, with the assistance of Hume City Council.
The Bulla CFA’s famous biennial garage sale and mini fete is also being held on this day, at Bulla’s St Mary’s Anglican Church.
Alister Clark (1864-1949), was Australia's most prolific rose breeder. He lived and bred his roses in Bulla. He released 122 roses between 1912 and his death. Sadly, many of these roses have been lost to cultivation over the years, although some of his famous roses such as Lorriane Lee, Blackboy and Nancy Hayward have always been popular.
The Alister Clark Memorial Rose Garden currently contains all 67 of the Alister Clark roses currently available including climbing, pillar, polyantha and hybrid tea bush roses.
