News>Hume Retail Strategy Released
Council is excited to announce the completion of the Hume Retail Strategy. Retail is an important part of activity centres and the strategy is a significant step for Council in managing both existing retail centres and planning for new centres such as the Craigieburn Town Centre.
The Strategy will assist Council in future planning and management of retail activities within the City.

| Hume Retail Strategy Fast Facts | | Retailing in Hume City is considered in two broad retail sub-regions: *Hume Growth Corridor *Sunbury The strategy has developed a retail hierarchy and classification thresholds Currently 263,000sqm (approx.) of retail floorspace in Hume City; *163,000sqm (62%) in centre *71,000sqm (27%) in centre bulky goods *29,200sqm (11%) in centre street based Current retail floorspace will need to at least double by 2031 (based on population growth and related future retail needs) Hume residents currently spend approximately 1.5 billion on retail each year (slightly below the national and Victorian averages). The total net retail capture/deficit (retail capture) is -$196.4 million (-12.8%) The Strategy has developed a Retail Development Decision Criteria/Impact assessment
