| Big Swap Party at the Broadmeadows Community Festival | | Hume City Council is hosting a Big Swap Party during National Recycling Week (9-15 November) at the Broadmeadows Community Festival, on Sunday 15 November. Residents can bring along up to three clean, good quality clothing items or toys, exchange them for a token, then browse through items brought by others and swap tokens back for items they want! To be involved, residents need to register items between 11am -12noon and start swapping between 12noon -2pm!
Following the success of Sydney’s 2008 Swap Party, Planet Ark has invited every council in Australia to participate in a Big Swap Party during National Recycling Week. Currently, 54 councils have registered a Swap Party. Details of these parties and the items that can be swapped at these events can be found on Plant Ark’s website.
|
| Swap parties encourage people to reuse items, reducing the demand for new items. Swapping a single cotton dress can save up to 22,000 litres of water from being used to produce the cotton for a new dress.
For further information contact Council’s Waste and Litter Education Officer on 9205 2200.
