SUSTAINABLE GARDENING OVER SUMMER – MULCHING
For some plants, particularly seedlings, a mulched garden over summer can mean the difference between survival and fatality. Mulch is beneficial to plants as it holds moisture in the topsoil that would otherwise evaporate, trapping water around plant roots.

Council will hold mulching days throughout 2010, allowing residents to bring their woody garden clippings along to their nearest location for processing into fine-textured mulch for the garden.

Proposed Mulching Dates for 2010:

  • Broadmeadows - Johnstone Street
    Reserve 17 January, 2 May, 10 October

  • Craigieburn - Craigieburn Leisure
    Centre 31 January, 16 May, 17 October

  • Dallas - Gibb Reserve
    7 February, 23 May, 24 October

  • Greenvale - Greenvale Recreation
    Centre 14 February, 30 May, 7 November

  • Sunbury - Sunbury Leisure Centre
