Access for All Abilities

Sport and recreation is recognised by the Victorian Government as playing a crucial role in promoting healthier (both physical and mental) lifestyles, enhancing self-esteem and building stronger communities.

Our Access for All Abilities (AAA) program aims to build the capacity of the sport and recreation sector to provide increased participation opportunities for people of all abilities.

The key objectives of the AAA program are:

  • promoting awareness of the benefits of active participation
  • providing support for inclusive sport and recreation environments
  • influencing the planning and development of accessible and inclusive sport and recreation environments
  • fostering and developing partnerships to enhance access and inclusion in the sport and recreation sector

What the AAA Officer can do for you

Our AAA Officer can support and assist you in the following ways:

  • provide assistance to find sport and recreation opportunities that may be suitable for you
  • although AAA officer does not directly run programs, they will assist you in linking up with sporting clubs, and organisations. The AAA Program supports the local club, service, group or organisations to plan and implement strategies which ensure their activities are inclusive of everyone
  • community recreation includes sporting clubs and associations, leisure centres, neighbourhood houses and living and learning centres, stadiums, community centres, halls, parks and gardens, recreation trails, and festivals and community events
  • provide free use of the new 'Sports Ability' kit. The Kit has equipment for 5 fantastic modified games which can be used in a variety of settings. Call us if you would like to use the equipment.

There are many ways a person with a disability can be involved in sport and recreation. You can become a player, coach, umpire, scorer, mentor, volunteer, spectator or help out on the committee.

The benefits of being involved in sport and recreation include:

  • meeting new people
  • developing new skills
  • having fun
  • gaining a sense of belonging and achievement
  • improved both physical and mental health
