Seniors encouraged to join the Hume Community Register
Victoria Police have established a Community Register for Hume residents in partnership with Dianella and Hume City Council. The Community Register aims to improve home safety and provide community support for senior residents and for residents who have a disability.
The Community Register is a phone call database that contains contact details of residents who are senior or have a disability and live alone. Details of the next of kin are also stored in the database. A dedicated volunteer will contact the registered resident on a regular basis to check on their safety, health and wellbeing. The register is based at the Broadmeadows Police Station and is coordinated by the police.
The first step is for residents to identify that they would like to be on the Community Register by contacting Leigh Harris at the Broadmeadows Police Station on 9302 8222. A volunteer will then call each resident to confirm they are part of the register and to answer any questions they may have.
