Youth Strategy

A new direction: Hume adopts strategy for young people

The development of an outreach service and stronger Council advocacy for youth counselling and support are key findings of a new youth framework adopted by Hume City Council.

Hume Mayor Councillor Helen Patsikatheodorou said the new Hume Youth Strategy 2011-2014 will play a fundamental role in shaping the make up and future of youth services in the area and provides a greater opportunity for young people to get involved in their community.
"The issues facing young people today are as diverse as the young people themselves and priority areas for emphasis are constantly changing in Hume," Cr Patsikatheodorou said.

"This strategy will play a fundamental role in ensuring the needs of young people are met, particularly to improve education and training outcomes to greater enhance young people's pathways and their transition into employment."

Development of the strategy follows a comprehensive survey of more than 200 service providers and local community groups for an overview of youth activities and services in Hume.
