Want to grow your own vegies, cut your power bills or plant habitat for wildlife? Learn practical ways to help our environment and save money at our free Live Green workshops and events. You could also roll up your sleeves and join other locals to help plant out our natural environment at our community planting days. You’ll meet new people, discover a new piece of Hume and get a couple of hours of worthwhile exercise.

Free Energy Saving Makeover for your Home

Energy Makeovers, supported by Hume City Council, is offering a free* Energy Saver service to Hume residents. Find out how to take advantage of free energy saving upgrades to your home to help you reduce your power bill and improve the comfort of your home.
Free upgrades include:

  1. efficient LED downlights and compact fluorescent lights
  2. chimney and door draught stoppers
  3. water-saving showerheads

For instance, upgrading your halogen downlights to new LED downlights can save you up to 85% on your lighting costs. Energy Makeovers is an accredited business under the Victorian Energy Saver Incentive scheme. (This offer only applies for houses where approved products can be installed.)

Reconciliation Week Planting

A very important planting in Hume’s Greening calendar as it acknowledges the strong connection of Indigenous people to Country. A range of edible wildflowers and fibre-producing grasses will be planted, with free pizzas provided for the corporate volunteers and other community members who attend.
