Individual Development Grant


This grant is awarded to individuals to create opportunities for skill development, professional development, networking and learning, and skill sharing in Hume communities. Funding in this category is available to support individuals with the costs associated with attending recognised professional development opportunities.  These opportunities must provide a clearly identified benefit to the Hume community.

  • Regional opportunities: $150
  • National opportunities: $400
  • International opportunities: $750

Council will accept only ONE application per year
*Applications are accepted throughout the year until funds are exhausted

Applicants must:
  • Be Hume residents
  • Provide evidence of selection from the relevant organisation.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to their area of endeavour.
  • Apply prior to the date of their event
  • Have no outstanding debts with Hume City Council
  • Have satisfactorily acquitted any previous funding received by Hume City Council.
    In addition:
  • Applications for sporting events are ineligible under this program and will be directed to Council’s Sports Aid Grants.
  • Applicants can be funded only once for each level of this grant (local, interstate and international) per year.

Demonstrated Need:
  • Relevance of the opportunity to an established development pathway and justification to support the identified activity
  • Demonstration of an ongoing commitment to achieve excellence, or demonstration of financial disadvantage
    Local community benefit:
  • Outcomes of the activities are clearly identified (how is the development opportunity consistent with Council’s vision and plans)
  • Steps the individual plans to take after completing the development opportunity to support the community
  • The budget is accurate, reasonable and relevant


  • Applicants must read the Guidelines thoroughly
  • Applications must be submitted 2 months prior to the event/activity taking place
  • All successful applicants will be notified of the outcome within 4 weeks of receipt of their application along with supporting documents
  • Payment will be processed after successful applicants return the copy of signed agreement to Council


Conditions of Funding
  • If your application is successful, you will be required to sign and return a Funding Agreement (which will outline the terms of your grant and your responsibilities) within 5 working days
  • It is important you ensure you have read the terms of your funding, including any special conditions before returning the signed agreement
Acquittal Report
Successful applicants must complete an acquittal report within 30 days of the completion of their activity/event or within 12 months of receiving funds (whichever is sooner)
The acquittal report will outline:
  • How the funding was spent (including providing receipts/invoices for items purchased)
  • Your feedback about your experiences with the grant
  • The outcomes and impact of the Community Grants Program
  • Include photos, media articles, printed results, certificate of participation
