Pathways seeks to provide clear directions for organising Council efforts that enable the Hume community to realise its vision to achieve social, environmental and economic outcomes, connecting the community and celebrating diversity. Pathways is a key document that guides and informs Council planning, decision-making, actions and activities, strategies and policies across the whole organisation that impact on the environment.

The impacts of climate change are already being experienced both locally and around the globe and will increase into the future. The purpose of Hume’s Climate Change Adaptation Plan and Action Plan is to: increase Hume City Council’s resilience to climate change impacts; support the Hume community to increase resilience to climate change impacts; and support the climate resilience of the natural assets of the City of Hume.

This is the implementation plan for the Climate Change Adaptation Plan.  It identifies actions to reduce or address higher priority climate change risks.  It also identifies actions to embed climate change considerations into Council processes and decisions.

Greenhouse_Action_Plan_2018-2022.pdf
Council has a firm commitment to greenhouse action and reduction within its own operations. This commitment is reflected in the objectives and actions of the Hume City Plan, the Hume Council Plan, and Pathways to Sustainability. This four year Greenhouse Action Plan 2018 – 2022 provides goals under the key themes of Buildings & Renewables, Waste, Public Lighting, Fleet, Community Emissions and Contributing to Positive Change, which will enable Council to demonstrate greenhouse leadership by minimising greenhouse gas emissions in Council's own operations; and influence and advocate for wider change within Council’s networks, including other local government areas, electricity distributors, community members and non-government organisations.

Integrated_Water_Management_Plan_2014-2017.pdf
The Hume Integrated Water Management Plan 2014–2017 (IWMP 2014-2017) provides a new direction for water management in Hume. It builds on progress made under the Local Water Action Plan 2007 and updates actions from the Stormwater Management Plan 2000. It takes into account key and emerging issues in the water industry and beyond.

This action plan has been developed to guide Council in achieving the goals and objectives of the IWMP 2014-2017 under the following key themes:
Council water efficiency in open space management; Council water efficiency in the built environment; Community water efficiency; Hume’s waterways.

Industrial_Stormwater_Code_of_Practice.pdf
This Code of Practice provides requirements and guidance for stormwater management on industrial sites. It applies to industrial and warehousing businesses, including businesses that are leasing properties. Council requires industrial land owners and business operators to protect water quality, by preventing and removing pollution from stormwater before it reaches the stormwater drain. The Code of Practice sets outs how to meet these requirements through the design of site drainage infrastructure and business operations.

Land_and_Biodiversity_Plan_2015-2019.pdf
Hume City supports many significant heritage, landscape and biodiversity values. This includes a range of indigenous plants, threatened vegetation communities, wildlife, waterways and sites of cultural and geological significance. Many of these values, such as the ancient River Red Gums and deep waterway valleys of the volcanic plains, define the character of our landscape and contribute strongly to Hume City’s identity and sense of place.

This Live Green Plan sets out how Hume City Council will engage the people of Hume City to live in an environmentally sustainable way, while enjoying a good quality of life. The Plan sits under Council’s Pathways to Sustainability Framework 2015-2019 under the Pathway entitled ‘Support the community to live and work sustainably’.

Rural_Community_Engagement_Plan.pdf
A Rural Engagement Plan was developed in 2014 to guide Council’s engagement with the rural community. It identifies several opportunities to address land management issues through engagement activities and partnerships.

Sustainability_Leadership_Action_Plan.pdf
This is an Action Plan under the Pathways to Sustainability Framework. Sustainability leadership allows an organisation to create positive and lasting social, environmental and financial change. It recognises the connection between the planet and human behaviour and impact, and how by making a conscious decision to act, positive environmental, social and financial change that supports the community and the environment can occur.

Sustainable_Places_Action_Plan.pdf
This is an Action Plan under the Pathways to Sustainability Framework. Sustainable Places are those that meet community needs and protect and enhance our biodiversity and the environmental systems on which we depend. They are vibrant and engaging places to live or visit with strong local economies. Creating Sustainable Places in Hume City includes consideration of municipality as a whole and how it connects with the broader metropolitan area; suburbs and neighbourhoods, parks, public spaces and streetscapes down to individual buildings and homes. It is relevant to both growth areas in Hume and existing neighbourhoods.

Sustainability_Report_2014-2015.pdf
The annual Sustainability Report contains the latest data available across a range of indicators and indicators of environmental sustainability.  It highlights progress under Council’s overarching environmental policy document Pathways to Sustainability: an Environmental Framework 2015-2019. The report focuses on the ongoing commitment of Council and the Hume community to improve the sustainability of the city through a broad range of programs, projects and activities.

To help Council achieve its vision, participation by the Hume community is vital. Consultation with the community will ensure that Council moves in partnership with the community.  The Hume Sustainability Taskforce is an important link for Council to the community for consultation, feedback and action on environmental sustainability strategies and actions.
