Crackerjack Craigieburn! It’s a new bowling clubroom!

New clubroom for Craigieburn Bowling Club
Ready: New clubroom for Craigieburn Bowling Club.

A new clubroom for Craigieburn Bowling Club would provide the biggest boost for bowls in Hume since the movie Crackerjack was released, Hume Mayor, Councillor Helen Patsikatheodorou, has said.

Cr Patsikatheodorou said the clubroom was set to help Craigieburn star on the bowling stage.

“While Mick Molloy and Judith Lucy generated a lot of interest in bowls when they made the Crackerjack film, I’m confident this very impressive clubroom will also get people talking,” Cr Patsikatheodorou said.

“Hume City Council has invested $1.8 million in a terrific building to support a bowling club that offers so much to our community.

“Craigieburn Bowling Club was established in 1983 and initially utilised builders’ huts as clubrooms, and the club has grown tremendously in recent years.

“Volunteers give many hours to nurture the club so that people can participate in a recreational sport and meet new friends.

“The people of Craigieburn Bowling Club are some of the finest you’ll meet, and Hume City Council is so proud to support this thriving community organisation.”

The new centre includes a social room that may be used for a variety of purposes, such as carpet bowls, seniors’ activities, club functions, and community get-togethers.

A members’ room connects to the social room via a retractable wall, and currently presents a number of dart boards that are used by the Craigieburn Darts Club.

The development includes a kitchen and bar area, as well as two verandas that allow people to watch the bowling greens in comfort.

Cr Patsikatheodorou thanked the members of Craigieburn Bowling Club for their assistance throughout construction.

“The club advocated strongly for a new clubroom because it knew what a lift such a development would give to an association that allows so many Hume residents to play bowls,” she said.

“Hume City Council appreciates the assistance of the club’s president, Darrell Cochrane, and former president, Remo Ascenzo, as well as every member of the organisation.

“Craigieburn Bowling Club provided all the furnishings and equipment for the new clubroom, and funded a top-quality catering oven.

“This development has also delivered a lovely garden setting which will catch the eye of every visitor, thanks to the efforts of club members.”

The clubroom was designed by Croxon Ramsay and constructed through Ireland Brown Construction.

Cr Patsikatheodorou encouraged everyone to inspect the new clubroom for Craigieburn Bowling Club.

“It’s a terrific facility that is available for the entire community to utilise,” she said.

Hume City Council will host regular physical activities at the clubroom, to assist residents in senior years to keep fit.

The Craigieburn Bowling Club is located at 245 Craigieburn Road, Craigieburn.

The new clubroom will be officially opened at a BBQ on Sunday 14 February 2016 at 12.15pm.
