Families to take centre stage at Hume Cup

A variety of family activities will be on offer at the 16th annual Hume Cup, one of Australia’s premier greyhound racing events.

Residents from across the municipality are encouraged to join in the festivities at The Meadows in Broadmeadows, on Monday 2 November 2015 from 6.30pm to 11.00pm.

Cr Atmaca said the night would offer a perfect setting to enjoy Melbourne Cup Eve.

“This is a really special event and it’s tailored to people of all ages,” Cr Atmaca said.

“The Hume Cup is always great fun for children, thanks to rides, a jumping castle, and face painting.

“Youngsters are encouraged to dress up in their race day wear and take part in the Petite Paws Fashions on the Track.

“There will be plenty of prizes, with children invited to enter a draw to win one of 10 scooters.

“The grown-ups won’t miss out either, thanks to many other prizes, including a $1000 travel voucher.”

The Hume Cup is a Group 1 race that features some of Australia’s finest greyhound dogs across the middle-distance of 600 metres.

In previous years, the event has attracted thousands of spectators, many of whom enjoy dinner in The Meadows’ function centre.

Cr Atmaca said the Hume Cup provided a fantastic chance for residents to meet others from their community.

“The night offers a genuine way for people to come together and get to know other families,” he said.

“Many people from Hume are interested in greyhound racing, and the Hume Cup is a night to socialise on what is often a balmy evening.

“It’s a fantastic event for people who have never been to the greyhound races, thanks to the range of entertainment on show.

“The greyhound industry supports many families in Hume, and the sport has a long tradition in our community.

“The Meadows draws many people to Hume from across Melbourne, and the racetrack is one of a number of top attractions that thrive in our municipality.”

Tickets to the Hume Cup cost $5 and may be purchased at the gate, with children under the age of 16 admitted free.

The Meadows is located at 80 Northcorp Boulevard, Broadmeadows.
