Hearts sing: relief for commuters is on the way!

Busy: Car park at Craigieburn Railway Station.

Years of campaigning for more car spaces at Craigieburn Railway Station had been worth it, Hume Mayor, Councillor Helen Patsikatheodorou, said today.

Cr Patsikatheodorou made the remark after the Victorian Government announced it would construct additional vehicle bays at the station, through three stages.

"This is terrific news, and it’s something that will make a real difference to the many commuters who utilise Craigieburn Railway Station every day," Cr Patsikatheodorou said.

"While the line to Craigieburn was electrified in 2006, there hadn’t been any increase in the number of car spaces since that time.

"We expect that patronage on the Craigieburn line will jump by 250 per cent by 2021, on 2011 levels, so today’s announcement is very timely.

"The Victorian Government has revealed it will start to construct 40 to 50 new bays in the coming weeks, with many more spaces to be delivered in the future.

"It’s something that makes my heart sing, and everyone who catches a train from Craigieburn should feel a little better because relief is on the way.

"Hume City Council campaigned strongly for these vehicle bays, and we’re very willing to assist the Victorian Government as it expands the car park.

"It’s a cracker day for Craigieburn, and the rising numbers of families who call this great part of the world home."

Hume City Council appreciates the dedicated efforts of the Member for Yuroke, Ros Spence, who has helped to advocate in support of additional vehicle bays at the station.
