Hume Clean: Working Together

A free BBQ will be held at Anderson Reserve in Broadmeadows between 12pm – 2pm on Saturday 2 May 2015 as part of the community consultation on an upcoming area-based maintenance blitz.

The blitz will be the first in a series of three in Hume City. Council is working within local neighbourhoods to deliver improvements to the amenity, appearance and cleanliness of the area. Other blitzes will be conducted in Sunbury West and Roxburgh Park later this year.

Hume Mayor, Councillor Adem Atmaca encouraged local residents to come along to help identify the priority projects.

“Undertaking works like these help to improve the visual appearance of a neighbourhood, and build the community’s pride in the local area,” Cr Atmaca said.

“Over one week from 11 to 15 May 2015, a Council team will clean the designated area in Broadmeadows to repair or replace damaged Council infrastructure assets.

“But before we do this, we want to know what actions the community thinks should be done.

“We are also keen for the community to get involved; keeping our community clean is a shared responsibility and the best results are achieved when Council works in partnership with residents and their neighbours.

“Anyone can lend a helping hand. You could mow your nature strip on a regular basis, remove litter or report to Council any street trees that need pruning, damage to footpaths or illegal rubbish dumping.

“There’s also an opportunity to build the local neighbourhood spirit. You might offer to mow your neighbours’ nature strips or bring in your neighbours’ bins when they are away or just simply stop by and check how they are doing. It might seem like a small gesture but you will find it is much appreciated and all helps to build community connectedness.”

The Broadmeadows area-based maintenance blitz will be conducted in an area bounded by Camp Road, Widford Street, Railway, Western Ring Road and Electric Street/Graham Street/Gibson Street.
