Hume welcomes priority for outer ring road

Hume City Council today welcomed the release of an infrastructure priority list by Infrastructure Australia, which has demonstrated how important it is to preserve land for the Melbourne Outer Metropolitan Ring Road/E6.

Hume Mayor, Councillor Helen Patsikatheodorou, said the freeway would greatly benefit local residents and businesses.

“The outer ring road will offer a freeway that spans across Melbourne’s west and north, from Werribee to Thomastown, and through Tullamarine, Craigieburn and Mickleham,” Cr Patsikatheodorou said.

“It will provide an essential link for trucks that need to service businesses in Hume, and help relieve traffic on congested thoroughfares like Craigieburn Road, Mickleham Road, Sunbury Road and Somerton Road.

“The outer ring road shall reduce travel times for our residents, and help locals in Sunbury to more smoothly access industrial sites in places like Kalkallo and Campbellfield.

“Hume City Council stands ready to support the Victorian and Australian governments as agencies plan for this essential arterial.”
