Survey to take at your leisure

Regular patrons of Hume’s leisure centres are encouraged to tell Council what they think of the exercise and recreational facilities that are located in Broadmeadows, Craigieburn, and Sunbury.

Hume Mayor, Councillor Adem Atmaca, said Council had prepared a new survey to garner the views of people who visit the leisure centres.

“It’s important that we know what our residents think about Hume’s leisure centres, because these facilities exist to cater to their needs,” Cr Atmaca said.

“We’ll use the results of the survey to determine whether there are things that Council can do to improve the leisure centres.

“The questionnaire is very comprehensive, and covers topics which range from the cleanliness of the centres to the adequacy of opening hours.

“I encourage everyone who utilises a Hume leisure centre to complete the survey, because their responses will be a big help to the people who manage the facilities.”

The survey asks patrons how satisfied they are with, for example:

• aquatic classes;
• fitness machines;
• food and drink items in canteens; and
• the range of goods that are stocked in the leisure centres’ retail stores.

Cr Atmaca said Hume was keen to determine how much people knew about the services which were available through the leisure centres.

“We offer a variety of fitness classes and swimming lessons at the leisure centres, along with personal training and activities for senior citizens,” he said.

“Council wants to find out whether people have been able to access the information they need about these services, from signs, brochures, and staff members.

“Each leisure centre features its own Facebook page too, and Hume would welcome feedback on how we can make our online presence even more engaging.

“We’d also like to know which fitness classes people like the most, and whether there are other types of exercise sessions that patrons would like to attend.”

Hume City Council’s leisure centres are located at:

• 127-147 Craigieburn Road, Craigieburn;
• 20 Ligar Street, Sunbury; and
• 41-85 Tanderrum Way, Broadmeadows.

Cr Atmaca said Hume had only recently upgraded the Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

“It’s situated in the heart of Broadmeadows, and is a sensational facility,” he said.

“Council has installed a 50 metre indoor pool with eight swimming lanes, along with gym equipment that’s tailored to people who want a cardio workout.

“The centre also includes a new childcare centre to assist families from Broadmeadows and beyond.”

Hume City Council has plans to construct a warm water pool at Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre, and a new pool and gym complex at Craigieburn Park, to replace the existing centre on Craigieburn Road.
