We want to say thanks

Residents and Council officers have donated more than 60 presents to local children as part of Hume City Council’s Christmas gift appeal.

Toys for boys and girls were collected at Council’s customer service centres across the month of December.

Hume Mayor, Councillor Helen Patsikatheodorou, thanked everyone who had donated a gift.

“The residents of Hume have shown once again how generous they are,” Cr Patsikatheodorou said.

“I sincerely thank people who spent their time and money to purchase and wrap a toy, and bring it to the Council.

“The gifts will delight many children across Hume whose families have faced some challenging times this year.

“Each toy represents a small gesture, but the impact will be big.

“The children who receive these toys will know that someone cares very much for them, and hopes that they have a happy Christmas.”

Hume City Council has dispersed the presents to local relief centres which are in contact with families in need.

The organisations which will hand out the presents in 2015 are:

• Holy Child Church in Dallas;
• St Dominic’s Catholic Church in Broadmeadows; and
• The Salvation Army in Sunbury.

Cr Patsikatheodorou wished everyone a very merry Christmas.

“I hope all Hume residents enjoy the next few days with their family and friends,” she said.

“If you plan to drive long distances, please take regular breaks, remember to obey the speed limit, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

“Council wants the more than 188,000 residents of Hume to enjoy many more Christmases in our special part of the world.”
