Gig to celebrate local women

Empowered women will be the focus of celebrations at a live music event in Broadmeadows, which is set to feature an entertaining cast of all-female bands.

Femme Fatale: For Women Who Have Walked Through Fire will take place at Broadmeadows Youth Central from 6pm on Friday 16 December 2016.

The event will star The Beautiful Monument, a Melbourne pop-punk band making huge waves on the Triple J Unearthed scene.

Other local groups to perform include Ghost in the Machine and Olivia Cooper. Hume Mayor, Councillor Drew Jessop, said Femme Fatale is an important chance to focus on talented young women in the City of Hume.

The fully supervised, smoke, alcohol and drug-free event, is an all ages event and is open to all members of the community.

“Femme Fatale will bring together some very talented female musicians for a fantastic night of entertainment,” Cr Jessop said.

“Not only will there be awesome bands, there will also be an acoustic stage to showcase the talent of local young women, through spoken word and poetry performances on the night.”

Cr Jessop said Femme Fatale was an important chance to focus on talented young women in the City of Hume.

“These women inspire and set an exceptional example for others to follow, and Femme Fatale will highlight their efforts and support female artists who live in Hume,” Cr Jessop said.

This year’s gig will feature two stages: an indoor stage for bands, and an outdoor stage in the courtyard for young poets, rappers, writers, acoustic soloists and much more.

The gig has been funded by the Victorian Government’s FReeZA initiative, and is coordinated by Hume City Council’s FReeZA organising committee.

Broadmeadows Youth Central is situated at 37 Pearcedale Parade, Broadmeadows. Tickets for Femme Fatale are $10 and can be booked here.
