Greenvale Recreation Centre upgrade officially opens

Greenvale Recreation Centre has had new life breathed into it thanks to a major upgrade of its facilities.

Hume Mayor Councillor Drew Jessop said the modern facilities would provide new courts for local netball and basketball clubs, as well as improved accessibility.

“The Greenvale Recreation Centre upgrade ensures that there are great facilities in Greenvale that young and old can use as a social and recreational outlet,” Cr Jessop said.

“The Greenvale Recreation Centre plays a vital role in the local community, encouraging physical activity and social interaction and these upgrades.

The $4.5 million Greenvale Recreation Centre upgrade includes:

  • A new indoor sports court for netball and basketball usage
  • Refurbishment of the existing indoor sports court including new skylights, an evaporative air-conditioning system, new basketball backboards and rings, new scoreboard and shot clocks
  • Entry and foyer upgrade, including new entry airlock and signage, new carpet and electronic turnstiles
  • Upgraded kitchen/canteen, including new stainless steel appliances and benching and a new servery
  • Upgrade to the senior function room
  • New accessible toilet amenity
  • Car park extension (additional 53 car spaces).

“Sports clubs such as the Greenvale Grizzlies and Champs Taekwondo will have fully refurbished spaces,” Cr Jessop said.

“By providing facilities where our residents can train, compete and watch sport, it will connect locals and promote active and healthy lifestyles.

“Along with sports clubs, multicultural seniors groups and education program Kumon Greenvale are just a few of the centre’s users that will be able to make the most of the new amenities.”
