Funds announced for growing Hume community

The Hume community is set to reap the benefits of a Victorian Government local infrastructure fund, with more than $4 million announced for the City on Friday 1 December.

The successful Hume projects to be funded this year by the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund are:

  • The McMahon Reserve development in Sunbury, which will receive $2,060,000 towards the construction of a new oval, second pavilion, new playground, netball courts, landscaping, pathways and fitness stations as part of the reserve’s $4,120,000 development.
  • The Arena Recreation Reserve development in Roxburgh Park, which will receive $2,015,000 towards the construction of a new $3,015,000 pavilion.

Hume Mayor Geoff Porter said the Growing Suburbs Fund was critical to delivering important community infrastructure for a City growing as rapidly as Hume.

“The total of $4,075,000 in funding is fantastic news for Hume, particularly for local community groups and sporting clubs which form the very backbone of our City,” Cr Porter said.

“The Growing Suburbs Fund has already helped deliver much needed community infrastructure such as Craigieburn’s inclusive playspace, Livvi’s Place, a new pavilion at the Sunbury Lawn Tennis Club, an interim community and preschool facility in Mickleham and the soon-to-be-constructed Hume Global Learning Centre – Sunbury.

“These funded projects ensure a more liveable Hume and reflect how vital the Fund is for a community that continues to grow.

“Similar to other projects, funds for the McMahon Reserve and Arena Recreation Reserve developments have the common goal of ensuring better access to facilities that can help improve health and well-being outcomes for our community.

“We sincerely thank the Victorian Government, particularly Minister for Local Government Marlene Kairouz and our local Members of Parliament - Member for Yuroke Ros Spence MP and Member for Sunbury Josh Bull MP for their continued advocacy that has ensured the Hume community secures funding through the program.

“Overall, the Growing Suburbs Fund is a great example of how local government works in partnership with the Victorian Government to deliver local infrastructure that is critical to a growing community.”
