Funds to help community groups create colour, music & fun at street festival

Community organisations can now apply for a share in $25,000 of funding to showcase their group’s wares at the 2018 Broadmeadows Street Festival.

Hume Mayor, Geoff Porter, said the Broadmeadows Street Festival was one of the City’s most loved annual events and encouraged community groups to take advantage of the festival’s grants program.

“The Broadmeadows Street Festival, which will take place on Sunday 8 April 2018, is set to be one of the biggest days in the Hume events calendar,” Cr Porter said.

“This community grants program supports not-for-profit organisations and gives them a platform to showcase their group to a large audience.

“Hume is home to some fantastic talent from all over the world – we are so proud to support community groups through this program, and can’t wait to see their displays and performances.”

Incorporated groups can apply for a grant of up to $2,500, with money to go towards performance or exhibit preparations.

Councillor Porter said exhibitions or performances by community organisations could include song, dance, poetry, theatrics and facilitation of handicrafts.

“Groups are even welcome to run cooking demonstrations, as traditional cuisine can be a great way to get a glimpse into someone’s heritage,” Cr Porter said.

“These types of exhibitions and performances are just some of the ways community organisations can use the grants to showcase their wares and make the Broadmeadows Street Festival a colourful and vibrant day out for all.”

Local incorporated groups who would like to perform or exhibit at the festival will need to submit an application to Hume City Council by Friday 15 December 2017.
