Get rid of your unwanted hard rubbish for FREE!

Hume Clean Day on Saturday 4 March is set to offer all Hume residents with a simple way to dispose of unwanted rubbish, Hume Mayor Councillor Drew Jessop announced today.

Cr Jessop said Council would host the free service at Hume Resource Recovery Centres in Sunbury and Campbellfield from 8am until 4pm on the day.

“Hume Clean Days run once every three months and they’re one of the most useful free programs for clearing out the clutter throughout the year,” Cr Jessop said.

“Bring your hard rubbish to either of our resource recovery centres in Campbellfield or Sunbury on the day, along with proof of Hume residency, such as a rates notice or driver licence and we’ll look after it from there.”

The following items will be accepted for FREE at Council’s Resource Recovery Centres on Saturday 4 March:

  • Mattresses
  • Couches
  • Electronic goods, such as televisions, computers and DVD players
  • Car tyres
  • Whitegoods, such as fridges and washing machines.

Everyone who brings goods on Hume Clean Day will be asked to provide evidence that they live in Hume – simply bring along a proof of Hume residency, such as your driver licence or a rates statement.

Cr Jessop said free programs such as Hume Clean Day meant there was no excuse to illegally dump rubbish.

“We take a zero tolerance approach to anyone who dumps rubbish illegally in our City.

“Council has used CCTV cameras at various sites, so that we can pursue those who have disregard for the law, and the cleanliness of where we live.

“While it costs ratepayers money every time we remove discarded rubbish, the offenders also end up with a massive bill.”

People who are found guilty in court of rubbish dumping face fines of up to $6000.

Although Hume Clean Days focus on particular items that can be recycled, Council also offers Hume residents a free hard waste service.

Each year, every household receives one free collection of up to three cubic metres of hard waste.

Households may also select from one of the following extra options:

Each household has a limit of 15 items that can be disposed of for free.

  • another home collection of three cubic metres of hard rubbish;
  • two passes to a Hume City Council waste facility, to dispose of hard waste in a car or single-axle trailer; or
  • one visit to a Hume City Council waste facility with rubbish in a double-axle trailer.
