Praise for emergency crews’ response to Coolaroo fire

Emergency service crews, who are still responding to a large fire at a recycling facility, located in Maffra St, Coolaroo, are being thanked for their efforts.

Hume Mayor, Cr Drew Jessop, also asked residents to remain up-to-date on the situation and follow the advice of emergency services.

“Hume City Council is very thankful to firefighters and other emergency personnel who have worked so hard to support the community in the wake of the fire,” Cr Jessop said.

“We remind residents to follow the advice of emergency services, which at this point is to stay indoors, close all external doors, windows and vents, and ensure heating or cooling systems are turned off.

“Anyone with pre-existing respiratory conditions needs to continue to monitor their condition closely.
“We appreciate that it has been a difficult day for our community and its surrounds, and we can only hope the situation is resolved as soon as possible.”
Hume City Council has provided assistance in the emergency, and opened a community respite centre at 1pm to provide relief for residents who may have been affected by the incident.

The respite centre has been set up at the Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre, located at 41-85 Tanderrum Way, Broadmeadows.

“Council will continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance to emergency crews as required,” Cr Jessop said.

“Council will also continue to update its website and social media sites to help the community remain informed, remembering the best source of information is the Emergency Vic and app.”
