Craigieburn festival brings fun run, free entertainment and food trucks

One of Hume’s favourite events, Craigieburn Festival, will return on Saturday 3 March 2018, from 11.30am – 9.30pm. Attracting more than 20,000 people in 2017, this community event has been entertaining residents of all ages for almost 30 years.

Hume Mayor, Councillor Geoff Porter, said that Craigieburn ANZAC Park will once again be filled with delicious foods, fantastic stage performances and free kids’ activities.

“The Hume community loves the CFA torchlight parade, fireworks and Craigieburn Art Show. We are thrilled to keep bringing these components back to the Craigieburn Festival,” Cr Porter said.

“Art enthusiasts can view up to two hundred artworks at the Craigieburn Art Show, taking place both Saturday and Sunday at Craigieburn Sports Stadium.

“In 2018, we are excited to introduce the Craigieburn Twilight Run to the festival offer. You can register on the day for the 5km course, or register online now. The Twilight Run gives families and friends a new opportunity to get active together. Entrants can run or walk the event, wheelchair and pram access is also available.”

Cr Porter said that he is also excited about the calibre of local and acclaimed musicians who will be lighting up the stage.

“We are delighted to announce that acclaimed singer songwriter Nathaniel will be our headline performer. Many festival goers will know Nathaniel from his successful stint on The X Factor and his hit single “You”,” Cr Porter said.

“There will be a range of cultural performances including an African drumming group and singing and dancing Polynesian, Sri Lankan and Assyrian troupes.

“Away from the main stage, Craigieburn ANZAC Park will be filled with kids’ activities, many for free, including an animal farm, face painting, jumping castle, reptile display, craft, cooking classes and a trackless train.

“The food trucks will provide loads of different flavours to choose from, including Mexican, Himalayan and French cuisines.

“There will also be plenty of carnival rides and market and information stalls to keep everyone busy.

“This fabulous festival will finish with an amazing fireworks finale at 9.30pm.”

Craigieburn Festival is proudly presented by Hume City Council, and sponsored by Rathdowne Wollert and Stockland Highlands.
