Free tax time help here for you

Free Tax Help is now available for Hume residents who earned less than $60,000 in the last financial year and would like assistance to complete and lodge their 2017-18 tax returns.

Hume City Council, in partnership with the Australian Tax Office, is once again offering this free confidential service to help residents who are low income earners.

Hume Mayor Geoff Porter said Council was proud to be able to work with volunteers to provide the free service.

“Lodging tax returns can often be a confusing and daunting process for some people,” Cr Porter said.

“No resident should miss out on their entitlements, simply because they weren’t able to receive the help they needed to lodge their return correctly.”

Council’s Tax Help program brings together residents with volunteers who are trained and accredited by the Australian Taxation Office.

“We are proud to have offered this popular service for ten years now,” Cr Porter said.

“Last year, we helped 513 Hume residents to lodge their tax returns. Since 2009, we have helped Hume residents to complete and lodge close to 3,810 tax returns.

“This year, six Hume residents are volunteering their time and knowledge to help more residents.”

Help will be available in English and a variety of other community languages, depending on volunteer availability.
