Funds commitment to fast track vital Sunbury sporting facilities

Hume City Council has welcomed a $2 million election commitment from Member for Sunbury, Josh Bull MP that would support Hume’s vision of a $3 million to upgrade of Sunbury’s Boardman Reserve.

Hume Mayor Cr Geoff Porter said the election commitment would be a real game changer for the Reserve if paired with Council’s $1 million allocation for the improvements.

“These works are currently scheduled to be undertaken over the next five years, so the additional funding will progress the upgrades much faster,” Cr Porter said.

“Council is committed to delivering high-quality sporting facilities to ensure athletes of all levels and abilities can thrive and reap the benefits of being physically active and socially engaged.

“The upgrade works will also create additional opportunities for participation in all sports that are located at the reserve.”

The extensive suite of improvements to Boardman Reserve include:

  • an upgrade of Pavilions 2 and 3 to provide new female-friendly changerooms;
  • expansion of the Social Room in Pavilion 3 to provide a larger space for local sporting clubs to get together;
  • installation of lighting on Oval 2, allowing teams to train at night, which means more sporting clubs can be accommodated on site; and
  • construction of a new car park for Oval 3 to help meet the increased demand for Boardman Reserve.

These works will enhance the experience of local sporting clubs who use Boardman Reserve including: Sunbury Kangaroos Football Club, Sunbury Lions Junior Football Club, Sunbury Little Athletics, Sunbury Dog Club, Sunbury Cricket Club, Ashfield Cricket Club and Sunbury Angling Club.
