Local charities urged to apply for Hume Charitable Fund grants

Local charities in Hume are encouraged to apply for funding through the latest round of the Hume Charitable Fund, Hume Mayor Councillor Geoff Porter said today.

The Hume Charitable Fund 2018 General Grants opens on Friday 7 September and provides grants of up to $10,000 for Hume charities.

“The Hume Charitable Fund provides vital support to Hume charities,” Cr Porter said.

“The Hume Charitable Fund helps support members of the community whose health and wellbeing may be challenged by a wide range of social or economic factors.

“Eligible local charity organisations working in the areas of health and human care can now apply for general grants of up to $10,000 per charity under the latest round of funding.

“We have had many worthy past recipients of general grants for equipment, projects and programs, which allowed the vital works of our community charities to continue.

“Past grant recipients of the Hume Charitable Fund include Oaklands Riding for the Disabled, Lentara Uniting Care, McKenna House Palliative Care Unit and Careworks Sunranges.

“Hume Charitable Fund 2014 recipient Riding for the Disabled was supported to provide important opportunities to local children from local Special Development Schools to increase engagement and improve balance and coordination skills on horseback; whilst Lentara Uniting Care provided Christmas food parcels and gifts to disadvantaged residents.”

The Hume Charitable Fund is a charitable fund account of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation and was established to support and distribute funds to charities.

The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation has been supporting charities across Melbourne since 1923.

To be eligible for the Hume Charitable Fund 2018 General Grants program, charities must have Deductible Gift Recipient and Tax Concession Charity status, work in human and health care, and be based in Hume.

Applications must be lodged at Hume City Council’s Broadmeadows office – 1079 Pascoe Vale Road, Broadmeadows – by 5pm on Friday 21 September 2018.
