State Budget bonanza for Hume community

Significant Victorian Government investment into local roads, infrastructure, schools, public transport and emergency services will improve liveability for Hume residents and businesses.

Hume Mayor Geoff Porter was thankful that the long-awaited needs of Hume’s community had been recognised in this year’s Victorian Budget.

“We have often felt that Hume was overlooked; this community just seemed to miss out when it came to the big ticket items that we have long advocated for,” Cr Porter said.

“But this year is different. We are rapt with the delivery of the widening of Sunbury Road, the duplication of Craigieburn Road and the business case for an improved Broadmeadows Train Station.

“We would like to acknowledge the efforts of our three local MPs – Ros Spence, Josh Bull and Frank McGuire – in supporting these positive outcomes for the Hume community.

“Investment in local roads will ease congestion for motorists, meaning less time stuck in traffic; improved parking around train stations will make the morning commute just that bit better; and finally, we might be a step closer to getting the improvements at the Broadmeadows Train Station that this community deserves.

“The announcements regarding new schools and school redevelopments align with this Council’s commitment to supporting life-long learning and it’s especially pleasing to me personally, given my background as a teacher.

“It’s important to now take a moment to reflect on this positive result for our City, but we know that our advocacy efforts don’t stop here.

“With the State Election looming, Council will remain focused on achieving positive outcomes in regards to future funding for the much needed duplications of Mickleham Road and Somerton Road as well as the duplication of Bulla Bridge and Sunbury Road between Bulla-Diggers Rest Road and Melbourne Airport.

“At the end of the day, our commitment and energy goes towards making the lives of our community better and we can only achieve this outcome in partnership with other levels of government and the community.”
