Suburban Rail Loop: Broadmeadows hub to connect jobs, education and health

Hume City Council has welcomed Broadmeadows being identified as one of three super-hubs in the State Government’s Suburban Rail Loop announcement this week.

Hume Mayor Geoff Porter described the announcement as visionary, transformational and said that it presented a strategy which practically planned for Melbourne’s future economic and population growth.

“We are absolutely thrilled with news that Broadmeadows is one of three hubs earmarked for the State Government’s Suburban Rail Loop project,” Cr Porter said.

“A Broadmeadows hub will not only mean a redeveloped station – which is something Council has advocated for years for – it will also improve access to jobs, education and health services for our residents.

“Our long-held view is that the Greater Broadmeadows area is a major metropolitan activity centre and a gateway to Victoria’s north – a future Suburban Rail Loop will certainly build on this work.

“Given Broadmeadows’ proximity to the airport and City, it makes sense to make construction of this hub a priority once this revolutionary project is given the green light.

“We thank the Victorian Government for supporting our long-term vision to transform Broadmeadows into a thriving commercial and residential hub and look forward to seeing this important project brought to fruition.” Cr Porter said.

The Suburban Rail Loop announced by the Victorian Government outlines a new public transport option to connect people to jobs and services.

Key features of the announcement include new links to employment hubs, health services, education, activity precincts, plus improved access to and from regional Victoria via key interchanges, such as Broadmeadows.
