Work experience at the top

Two students have landed the ultimate year 10 work experience positions of Youth Mayor and Youth Deputy Mayor.

Hume City Council was very excited to open up this opportunity to the city's youth who were seeking something a little out of the ordinary.

Aitken College student Angus McTaggart was selected as the Youth Mayor, with Sunbury College student Kara Gifford securing the role of Deputy Youth Mayor.

Both students aced the interview process and were selected on their merits. Both Angus and Kara had previous leadership experience undertaken within their school or in the community, and both possessed a high-level of interest in being future community leaders.

Both Angus and Kara will complete their work experience alongside Mayor Cr Geoff Porter and Deputy Mayor Cr Carly Moore. They will be participating in a Council Meeting and will help with Youth Week activities.

The Youth Mayor positions were promoted to all secondary schools across Hume City, with fourteen year 10 students from nine school submitting applications.

Year 10 work experience is an exciting time for thousands of students, giving tomorrow’s work force a glimpse into jobs they may be interested in and the opportunity to start building a professional network.

Follow the Hume City Council Facebook page to keep up to date with Angus and Kara’s work.
