A good life in Hume from birth to adulthood – the draft Hume 0-24 Framework now open for feedback

Hume City Council is seeking the community’s thoughts about our community’s vision for the children and young people in Hume over the next decade.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said children and young people are the future of our community, and it is important to remember that they are a big part of our community as they grow up too.

“The Hume 0-24 Framework is a ten-year strategic plan that will help guide how we create our community in a way that gives children and young people the very best start in life.

“All young people need to feel secure, cared for and safe. They also need access to life’s necessities, health and wellbeing, as well as opportunities to learn and be an active part of the community.

“To achieve the very best for our young people, Council, service providers, policy-makers and our community need to work together.

“Council has worked in partnership with our community to develop the draft Hume 0-24 Framework 2019-2029 through extensive consultation with over 1,300 children, young people, families and those who work with them, throughout Hume City.

“We now look forward to the community’s thoughts and insights to help us to finalise this important strategy for Hume children and young people.

Five key themes are identified necessary for a good life:

  • Theme 1: Feeling secure, cared for and safe
  • Theme 2: Access to life’s necessities
  • Theme 3: Health and wellbeing
  • Theme 4: Learning from birth to adulthood
  • Theme 5: Being involved, connected and valued

The Hume 0-24 Framework and these five themes are an important tool to guide:

  • ways to talk about children and young people’s wellbeing,
  • service design and delivery,
  • program evaluation and review
  • the formation or strengthening of community partnership and networks,
  • the prioritisation of advocacy work; and
  • the allocation of resources, now and into the future.

Let’s come together to finalise a vision for our community that creates the very best environment possible for all children and young people in Hume City. The draft Hume 0-24 Framework 2019-2029 will be available for community feedback until 14 May 2019.
