Construction of new Greenvale West Community Centre underway

Hume residents will soon have access to a state-of-the-art hub featuring preschool rooms and community meeting spaces, with construction of the Greenvale West Community Centre now underway.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore joined Member for Yuroke, Ros Spence MP to mark the commencement of construction, and said Hume City Council is delivering a $8.2 million Centre for the community, with the Victorian Government contributing $1.6 million to the project through the Children's Facilities Capital Program.

“Community facilities like the one we will build in Greenvale West are truly at the heart of what our local families do every day,” Cr Moore said.

“They are places that provide local families with important day-to-day services, plus opportunities to meet other families and make friends.

“The Greenvale West Community Centre will provide residents with two new preschool rooms, plus a children’s activity space that equates to an additional 198 places overall.

“Our newest residents and their families will also benefit from a new maternal and child health services consulting room and waiting area.”

Other highlights of the new Greenvale West Community Centre include a:

  • consulting room for specialist early and family services
  • multi-purpose community activity spaces, and
  • learning and training spaces

Cr Moore said creating flexible community spaces where activities and events can take place in the local community is a priority – we want to deliver facilities that meet the diverse needs of our community.

“The new Greenvale West Community Centre will be a versatile and practical facility for families and the entire community,” Cr Moore added.

“Having space for a multipurpose activity room will mean the centre is able to also support additional early years, community activities, programs such as playgroups, new parent groups, and training.

The new Greenvale West Community Centre is expected to be complete by mid-2020.
