New pavilion to offer more opportunities to the people of Craigieburn

Craigieburn residents have welcomed a new pavilion at Aston Recreation Reserve that will be home to grassroots sports and create more opportunities to host community events and meetings locally.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said the Aston Estate has become a very popular choice for families and this new pavilion will make living here even more enjoyable.

“Facilities like this one are a vital part of daily life and Council is committed to delivering the local sporting and community facilities our residents need, particularly within emerging communities within the City’s growth areas,” Cr Moore said.

“This pavilion is really versatile and has been designed to provide a much-needed venue for local soccer and cricket clubs, while also providing a new venue for local events and meetings.

“Taking part in sport and social activities close to home is a great way to connect with your local community and I encourage residents of all ages to get involved with the sporting groups and activities on offer.”

The new pavilion overlooks three soccer pitches, a cricket field (as part of two of the soccer pitches) and cricket practice facilities. Additional lighting, nearby playspace, seating, shelter, BBQ, car parking and landscaping also complement the new facility.

Land developer PEET has been a major partner in the development of this site for the Aston community and contributed the land for the reserve through development contributions and the delivery of the district level play space.

“The delivery of this new pavilion has been made possible thanks to $2 million in funding from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund,” Cr Moore said.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to thank local Member for Yuroke Ros Spence MP and the Victorian Government for their support to deliver this new facility.

“This additional funding has allowed us to deliver this pavilion more than a year ahead of when it was initially planned.

“The Craigieburn City Soccer Club and Craigieburn Cricket Club will call the new Aston Pavilion home and I am sure their male and female teams across the senior and junior competitions will appreciate what the new building offers.

“We value grassroots sporting clubs in Hume and are very proud to be able to provide new facilities that help them to thrive.”
