Nominations open for awards in honour of local hero - Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG

Nominations have opened for the 2019 Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG Memorial Award, which awards up to $5000 to young locals who demonstrate the values of our local fallen Australian hero.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said this award celebrates the memory of Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG by supporting young members of our community to pursue their dreams.

“Gladstone Park local and Australian soldier Corporal Baird VC MG, is remembered and admired for his selflessness, acts of courage and for his ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield which saw him bravely try to draw enemy fire away from his comrades, in Afghanistan.

“Along with his military service, Corporal Baird VC MG was an active member of our local community who aspired to support and inspire the next generation,” Cr Moore said.

“To honour his legacy, Hume City Council established the Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG Memorial Awards, which biennially, allocates up to $5000, across two categories, to help young community members to achieve their dreams.”
