Cr Carly Moore said I am very pleased that these two vital community facilities are now available to residents in Craigieburn and Kalkallo.

“Our community centres are places that the whole community use and they become the heart of local suburbs,” Cr Moore said.

“When you consider how popular Craigieburn and the surrounding areas are as a place to live, especially for young families, we need make sure our facilities keep pace with the demand.

“We are planning for the future and ensuring the infrastructure we build now connects with future facilities.

The new $8 million Aitken Hill Child and Community Centre neighbours the new State Government primary school and will also incorporate district open space, ultimately this is the first step in creating an active space for the entire community.”

The Aitken Hill Community Centre will deliver

  • three preschool rooms
  • two Maternal Child Health rooms, plus a waiting room
  • specialist consulting rooms for early intervention services
  • space for specialist early years/family services, counselling and youth programs
  • ·office space for non-Council services
  • a multipurpose activity room to accommodate various other community activities.

Cr Carly Moore thanked the Victorian Government for its contribution of $1.6 million to the project through the Children’s Facilities Capital Program.

Kalkallo residents are also enjoying the Kalkallo Interim Pre-School which is delivering important services to residents until the Kalkallo Community Centre facility comes online in 2021.

Cr Carly Moore said interim facilities like the one in Kalkallo provide residents with the services they need when they need them.

“Recognising the demand, Hume City Council and the Victorian Government worked collaboratively to ensure this facility was ready for term 1 of the 2019 preschool year,” Cr Moore added.
