Seniors encouraged to ‘Get into it’ with more than 45 events across Hume City Council this October

The annual Hume Seniors Festival, supported by the Victorian Seniors Festival, is here again, encourages older residents to get out in the community, to learn something new, make friends and take part in the fun activities planned in Hume City and Victoria.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore, said with more than 29,000 Hume residents aged over 60, we are looking forward to these residents enjoying over 45 events taking place across Hume this October, catering for different interests, experiences, mobility levels and lifestyles.

“The goal is to inspire people to get out and about, to be active, try new things and create new connections with people,” Cr Moore said.

“This year we are pleased to be offering more events than ever before.”

The Victorian Seniors Festival, which is held every year in October, has been bringing senior people together for 37 years and in 2019, more than 2,500 events are planned across Victoria.

Events in Hume City will start on Tuesday 1 October and finish on Thursday 31 October.

Cr Moore said the events are mostly free and cater to active lifestyles, green thumbs, music and dance lovers, people who want to learn new skills and people who would like to socialise and meet people locally.

Highlights in this year's program include four ‘Get into it’ events which all include free lunch, entertainment, music, dancing and a guest speaker, a large variety of free health and fitness classes, a talk on accessing aged care services, and a performance from the Victoria Police Band at the newly redeveloped Town Hall Broadmeadows.

Bookings are required for most events. Be sure to check the details in the Hume Seniors Festival program or online.

Eight days of free public transport is also available for Victorian Seniors Card holders from Sunday 6 October to Sunday 13 October across all metropolitan and V-line services.
