StartNorth accelerator program set to kickstart new ventures

Local migrant and refugee-led ventures will receive a boost through an accelerator program to be delivered by Hume City Council’s StartNorth coworking space and education and leadership not-for-profit, ygap.

The program was awarded funding through LaunchVic’s Round X grant program, which supports the development of startup founders, entrepreneurs and investors in the Victorian startup ecosystem.

Hume Mayor, Cr Carly Moore said ygap has extensive experience including the delivery of more than 50 world-renowned accelerator programs, capacity-building workshops, mentorship networks and tailored strategic sessions, as well as supporting more than 500 early-stage ventures.

“Hume is home to 210,000 residents, of which almost one-third are first-generation migrants,” Cr Moore said.

“StartNorth, powered by Hume City Council aims to fuel innovation and success by offering programs for migrant and refugee, and other local entrepreneurs within the Hume City area that equips participants with the knowledge, experience and support network they need in order for their startups to succeed.

“This program specialises in supporting migrant and refugee-led businesses, which ygap has extensive experience in.”

Cr Moore also encouraged local businesses looking to grow to consider StartNorth as an opportunity, particularly with the current membership sale.

“Our new coworking space opens on 28 October. We currently have a fantastic pre-opening limited time offer of 25 per cent off individual memberships,” Cr Moore said.

“Along with working in a state-of-the-art new coworking space in an iconic building, member benefits include business and social events, leisure centre discounts, printing, fast wifi, access to meeting rooms and a community of like-minded people.

“To top this all off, StartNorth offers flexible packages and competitive pricing.

“Places are selling fast so interested businesses and individuals are encouraged to get in quick.”
