We love kinder, we know you do too

Hume City Council is joining the community call for a commitment from the Federal Government to continue the funding of four-year-old kindergarten beyond 2019.

Currently, four-year old children are entitled to 15 hours of government-funded kindergarten, consisting of 10 hours of State Government funding and five hours of Federal Government funding.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said the new school year has started and there is still no guarantee that children starting four-year-old kindergarten in 2020 will receive 15 hours of government funded kindergarten.

“We need our children to arrive at school ready to learn and kindergarten provides this important platform for our young residents,” Cr Moore said.

"If the current funding is discontinued, parents of young children could have to find around $2000 to cover the shortfall and the uncertainty is making it difficult for young families to plan for the future.

“I know how much my children loved their time at kindergarten and I am asking the community to join me and share what they love about kindergarten as we call for funding certainty.”

We need to let the Federal Government know how much we love kinder and ask them to stop the cuts to kindergarten funding.
