Walking School Bus

Council is encouraging school children to jump on board the Walking School Bus, which is powered by little legs instead of an engine. Not only does the Walking School Bus encourage healthy exercise habits for both children and adults, it is free!

A Walking School Bus is typically made up of two volunteers - a driver and a conductor - and up to 16 children. Each bus walks along a set route, picking up registered passengers at assigned bus stops. Children are supervised on their way to school and have a chance to chat with friends and exercise at the same time.

How to get on board the Walking School Bus

Calling all parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles! More adult volunteers are needed to supervise the children on their journeys to and from school. It is a fact of modern life that most of us don't get enough exercise. As a Walking School Bus volunteer, you could increase your daily exercise to 40 minutes per day.

If you would like to be involved in the Walking School Bus, or if you would like to find out if your child's school is involved, please call us on 9205 2200.
