Dreamtime Business Lunch

The inaugural Hume Dreamtime Business Lunch took place during the AFL Indigenous Round, on Wednesday 22 May 2019 in the lead up to the Dreamtime at the 'G match between Richmond and Essendon.
Guests were invited to join Council over lunch with some very special guests:

  • Brendon Gale, CEO of the Richmond Football Club
  • Xavier Campbell, CEO of the Essendon Football Club
  • Shelley Ware, host of the Marngrook Footy Show and passionate Carlton supporter.

Shelley invited the CEO's to delve into their past with some anecdotes, and look to the future and share how the two clubs have thrived with the significant contribution of Indigenous players. Brendon and Xavier shared their insights on the challenges and triumphs they’ve faced as CEO’s and the transformations made within their clubs.

A traditional Welcome to Country was performed at the event, by Aunty Jacqui Wandin from the Wurundjeri Tribe.

The annual AFL Indigenous Round acknowledges the contribution of Indigenous players to Australian Rules Football. Each year, the ‘Dreamtime at the ‘G’ match, played between Richmond and Essendon celebrates the role the game has played in building bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australia, and the substantial contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures have made to football.
