Community consultation

We listened…

Hume City Council ran a series of engagement activities to gain community feedback on their aspiration and vision for the centre – this was done through:

  • Feasibility study undertaken in 2014
  • Establishment of Community Advisory Group
  • Online survey
  • Presence at Sunbury StreetLife and Christmas on the Green events
  • Pop-up information sessions at Sunbury Library and Sunbury Square Shopping Centre
  • Visit to Docklands Library with young people
  • Conversations with key community groups and organisations

This is what you told us...

Your feedback helped inform, guide and shape the planning of the HGLC-Sunbury.

Look and feel

  • A light-filled, spacious and modern centre that is welcoming, inviting, comfortable and relaxing.
  • An interesting and dynamic place that inspires connection, discovery, exploration and creativity.
  • A safe and welcoming place for all.

Design

  • Vibrant, open and light.
  • Accessible for all.
  • Incorporate a number of multi-purpose (small, medium and large) spaces to support a wide range of library, learning and community programs.
  • Provide a range of cosy nooks and pods for casual reading and individual and group learning and study.
  • Have a separate children’s area and provide a family friendly atmosphere.
  • Respond to and reflect Sunbury’s history, identity and character.

Use and activity

  • Comfortable and relaxing places for people to sit.
  • A diverse and up to-date collection of books.
  • Spaced for people to connect, meet and learn, fostering a strong sense of belonging and community connection.
