Upgrades and works rolling updates

Find all you need to know about the works at Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre here.

During the works at our centre, we will be updating this page with rolling announcements and information.

  Friday 23 August 2019

  • Following the collapse of the Head Contractor for the works at Broadmeadows Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Hume City Council has become the project’s owner/builder and will complete all works that were originally planned, with the exception of the windows which will be replaced at a later date.
  • Council is pleased that many of the original sub-contractors working on the project were able to be reengaged by Council.
  • This took time to negotiate, and along with inclement weather, there has been some delays in progress.
  • From early October, users of the centre will likely get a taste of the newly redeveloped sections.
  • The roof replacement has almost been completed over the 25-metre pool area and is progressing over the 1st floor fitness area. Weather permitting, the gym area is expected to reopen upstairs in early October.
  • The structural work and fit out of services in the changerooms has been completed. Tiling, painting and fittings will be complete in the coming weeks. The changerooms are expected to reopen in early November.
  • Upgrades to equipment in the 25-metre pool plant room is progressing, a new ceiling is being installed and the painting of the pool hall is almost complete. Weather permitting, the 25-metre pool is expected to reopen in early December. Council acknowledges this will affect a portion of Learn to Swim participants, and leisure centre staff will be in contact those affected to discuss their options.
  • While the delay in works is unfortunate, Council has been working tirelessly to ensure works continued given the circumstances. We acknowledge many people are eagerly anticipating the full reopening of the centre, and we are just as excited to see it complete.
  • The next Q&A: Meet the Management session will be on Wednesday 4 September from 10.30am - 11.30am in the centre foyer.
