The Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG Memorial Award was established by Hume City Council in 2015 to recognise the legacy of Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG, a Hume local and national hero who was killed in action in 2013.

This is a significant year as it marks 10 years since the passing of Corporal Cameron Baird VC MG. Corporal Baird will be remembered for his bravery, his commitment to the community, and his ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield. He was awarded the country’s highest military award, the Victoria Cross for Australia and was also awarded the Medal for Gallantry for his service in Afghanistan in 2007-08. Along with his military service, Corporal Baird was an active member of our local community who aspired to support the next generation to follow their dreams.

Successful recipient(s) will be announced at the awards ceremony later this year in June 2023.

Hume City Council staff will work with the winners over the following year to provide support and guidance in helping the recipients achieve their stated goals with the award funds.
