Kindergarten is Free

As part of the Victorian State Governments ongoing commitment to early years, to ensure every child gets the best start in life, from 2023 kindergarten will be free for both three and four year old programs.

Kindergarten Drop In Sessions

Visit us at any of our drop in sessions if you need support completing your kindergarten enrolment form, updating your preferences, or want to know more about the kindergarten program.  Refer to our Drop In Session(PDF, 499KB) schedule to choose a time that works best for you.

Apply for Kindergarten

Step 1.Nominate Three Kindergartens

You will be asked to nominate three kindergarten preferences as part of your application. Please choose kindergartens that you would be willing to accept a place at. You are welcome to contact any kindergarten you are interested in to arrange a tour to help you decide what will best suit you and your child. 

Step 2.Prepare your application

You will need to complete a separate registration:

  • form for each child in your care (e.g. twins).
  • for each year your child attends kindergarten

Expressions of Interest

Kindergarten Expressions of Interest

Registrations for Kindergarten are always open.  You are welcome to complete an Expression of Interest for a future kindergarten placement for your child if they are not yet eligible for kindergarten.

If you complete and Expression of Interest, you will be kept up to date with kindergarten information and be notified when the application process opens for your child's enrolment year.

What happens after submitting my child’s application?

Offers are made to families based on their selected kindergarten preference from August the year before they start kindergarten. 

Families have seven days to accept or decline an offer. 

If there are no places available at your preferred kindergarten, we will let you know of places available at other kindergartens. You may choose one of them or remain on a waiting list

Important Information

  • Three-year-old sessions will be delivered as either 7.5 hours per week or 15 hours per week.
  • Children must be three years of ages before starting kindergarten.
  • Four-year-old sessions are delivered 15 hours per week.
  • Families are asked to select three locations that you are willing to attend.
  • Updating preferences will not change your initial registration date recorded on the system.
