We are recruiting!

  • Are you looking for local leadership opportunities?
  • Are you looking to design and facilitate activities to improve outcomes for local young people?
  • Are you looking for training opportunities to build on your skills?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then being part of the Hume Youth Action Committee may be a fantastic opportunity for you.

What is the Hume Youth Action Committee?

The Hume Youth Action Committee (YAC) is funded through the Victorian Government Engage! Funding and facilitated by Hume City Council Youth Services.

The Hume YAC consists of twelve aspiring young community leaders, ranging in age from 15-20 years from a diverse range of backgrounds.

The YAC leaders work together to identify issues facing young people in Hume through community consultation, co-designing and facilitating activities to improve the outcomes for young people.

The Hume YAC is a youth led initiative, with young people receive support and guidance from the Hume Youth Services Team. The Hume Youth Services team will assist the YAC leaders to:

  • gain a greater connection to and actively participate in their local community.
  • build their skills and knowledge, and pathways to employment, training and education.
  • improve their health and wellbeing and social connections to friends, family and the community.

ACTION! Films

The Hume YAC have conducted close to 400 consultations in which identified mental health and bullying as a few of the key areas of concern for young people in Hume. A goal of the Hume YAC was to not only create awareness but inspire change, which led to the production of two short films ‘Mental Health Bar’ and ‘Say Good-bye to Standing By’. The Hume YAC wanted to highlight how dynamic mental health can be and hoped to capture mental health itself rather than mental illness. The Hume YAC wanted to bring your attention to how seeking support can really help when life gets overwhelming.
