A presentation of photographic and video documentation showcasing the work of Sunbury based BoilOver Performance Ensemble and their creative producer Carmen Maddison with photography by live-performance and event photographer Matt Gleeson.

Carmen Maddison

Carmen Maddison presents Solitude, a short dance story that was performed and filmed in the Bowery Theatre as part of the Bowery Online series exploring new ways of engaging audiences remotely during the 2020 lockdowns.  This project was provoked by the experience of sitting alone with ourselves in these quiet moments of isolation and times of unrest she shares what arises from within the stillness and chaos.

Artist Biography

Carmen Maddison is a performance maker and community cultural development practitioner in dance and physical theatre and has extensive experience facilitating inclusive community arts and engagement projects.  She holds a BA with Honours in Performance Studies, Victoria University and MA, Community Cultural Development Practice, VCA, Melbourne Uni. Carmen was an inclusive support trainer for many years at Circus Oz and Westside Circus and is an advocate for inclusive arts practice.

Carmen commenced the role of Creative Producer for BoilOver Performance Ensemble in 2018 and has been working with them on work that pushes not only the audience perception of what artists living with a disability can achieve and offer but also raises the bar and pushes the ensemble’s own perceptions of what they can achieve themselves.

BoilOver Performance Ensemble

BoilOver is an inclusive performance ensemble who create and present unique and innovative performance works. They believe all artists have important creative offerings and diverse abilities and it is our mission to push the boundaries and raise the bar of what artists with living with a disability can achieve.  Supported by professional arts practitioners our BoilOver Artists create physical, inspiring, and visually striking contemporary performance.

Established in 2009, BoilOver is the brainchild of Sunbury local Bernadette Hetherington who saw the need for an inclusive theatre company based in Sunbury that provided a creative outlet and professional skill development in a safe, supportive, creative and fun environment.  Proudly supported by Sunbury Community Health, BoilOver is now celebrating over 10 years as an ensemble and has been actively creating work for over a decade.

BoilOver is currently in creative development of BUOY an aerial performance spectacular with internationally acclaimed physical Theatre Company ‘5 Angry Men’. This work will reflect upon what has kept the participants afloat during turbulent times,

Bookings for performances on 3 - 4 June can be made via Trybooking.
